Vanaf gisteren is het album van PJ Harvey dan eindelijk uit: Let England Shake.Vraag is , klopt de titel? Is dit het album waarmee voor het eerst sinds 2007 er weer een echt studio album van deze Engelse singer songwriter als opvolger van het magistrale album White Chalk.
En moet Engeland gaan shaken? Ja als we de critici mogen geloven. NME geeft het album 10/10:

Over two decades, she’s been one of Britain’s most consistently talented songwriters and performers, her work bristling with violence and darkness, but her focus has always been the self. The anguish of ‘Rid Of Me’, the spooky emptiness of ‘To Bring You My Love’, the sweeping romance of ‘Stories From The City…’ – these are all journeys on which the listener hitches a ride into Polly’s personal heaven or hell. But this is Harvey declaring herself a political animal, calling out to her brethren.

You're left with a richly inventive album that's unlike anything else in Harvey's back catalogue. That, she told Marr last year, is the point: "My biggest fear would be to replicate something I've done before." Let England Shake sounds suspiciously like the work of a woman at her creative peak. Where she goes from here is, as ever, anyone's guess
Ja we weten het nu wel, heeft er dan niemand kritiek?
Ja The Rolling Stone maar dat zijn tenslotte Amerikanen en die snappen nooit echt Engelse muziek.

Het is inderdaad een magistraal album geworden, waarbij PJ een totaal ander album heeft afgeleverd dan het vorige album, dit album verteld de bijna vergeten geschiedenis van de Eerste Wereldoorlog en de rol van Engeland daarin.
Wat worden we verwend in 2011 door prachtige albums, na Adele al weer een dame, als dit zo door gaat wordt ons jaarlijstje wel erg groot!!
