Swindon group Rain wasted no time making their first impressions. Debut track ‘Slur’ was a thunderous punch to the gut, receiving its first spin through DIY back in October of last year. From there on out, they hit the ground running, with their debut EP ‘Symphony Pains’ proof of their ability to break through the clouds of their shoegazing contemporaries. On their new single, ‘Solis’, they take that melodic shimmer and amp it up tenfold.
Shining brighter than any of their previous work to date, it’s a hopeful twist on their previously downtrodden gloom-rock, all flickering percussion and call-and-response guitar-lines. Their name might call to mind the darker months, but Rain’s latest strikeis purpose-built for the youthful exuberance brought on by a summer’s heat.
On Thursday (June 2nd), Rain play a DIY Presents show at the New Cross Inn in south-east London. They’re joined by previous Neu Pick stars Beachtape, Blush and Karmacoma - more info on that here. diy
